ADA 10 Under 10: Meet Dr. Craig McKenzie
Awards honor new dentists for demonstrating excellence

Craig McKenzie, D.M.D., of Pittsburgh, one of this year’s winners of the ADA 10 Under 10 Awards, is an assistant professor of dental anesthesiology and the director of the Center for Patients with Special Needs at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.
“As we move forward, in the future of dentistry and access to care, we’re going to see less and less OR time for dentistry and oral surgery, so I really see dental anesthesia as a way to bridge that gap to still provide that high-quality anesthesia service within an ambulatory surgery center or the patient’s dental home,” he said in a video by the American Dental Association.
Dr. McKenzie graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2021.
The ADA New Dentist Committee chose the recipients of the 10 Under 10 Awards for demonstrating excellence and inspiring others in science, research and education; practice excellence; philanthropy; leadership; and advocacy. All 10 winners are ADA members who graduated from dental school less than 10 years ago. The winners were announced in March during Elevate in Washington, D.C.
