ADA 10 Under 10: Meet Dr. Lyubov D. Slashcheva

Lyubov D. Slashcheva, D.D.S., of Fergus Falls, Minnesota — one of this year’s winners of the ADA 10 Under 10 Awards — is passionate about serving underserved communities. Her earliest experiences of going to the dentist were at her local health department.
Now, Dr. Slashcheva is a dental public health specialist with clinical expertise in geriatric and special care dentistry. She serves as research director for a nonprofit dental organization, Apple Tree Dental, and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in 2016.
“The nonprofit world, I feel like, is just a playground of innovation. They’re very nimble, even though we have to raise funds for a lot of what we do, and we try to provide care to vulnerable communities and patients that would otherwise not receive care,” she said in a video by the American Dental Association.
The ADA New Dentist Committee chose the recipients of the 10 Under 10 Awards for demonstrating excellence and inspiring others in science, research and education; practice excellence; philanthropy; leadership; and advocacy. All 10 winners are ADA members who graduated from dental school less than 10 years ago. The winners were announced in March during Elevate in Washington, D.C.
