Communicating with patients when things go wrong in dentistry

Free webinar to highlight importance of transparency

Few challenges strike as much fear in a dentist’s heart as the need to talk to a patient who has been harmed by their dental care.

Join the free webinar, "Communicating With Patients When Things Go Wrong In Dentistry," and hear national experts share best practices for communicating with patients who have been involved in a “near miss” or adverse incident, while being able to describe how these skills reinforce the key behaviors needed to support patients and drive learning in dentistry.

The webinar, which is presented by the ADA Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention, is offered on two separate dates: Jan. 19 at noon CST; and Feb. 1, 6:30 p.m. CST.

Speakers include health care executive Julie Morath, a registered and advanced practice nurse, and Thomas H. Gallagher, M.D., University of Washington associate chair for patient care, quality, safety and value.

Webinar attendees can learn to identify three steps they can take today to enhance a culture of patient safety in their practice; explain three reasons why transparency is essential to a culture of safety; and describe the critical communication skills required to respond effectively when patients are harmed by their dental care.

Register here for the Jan. 19 webinar, and visit here for the Feb. 1 event.
