Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh looking for volunteers
The organizers of Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh are calling for volunteers for this year’s event, scheduled for Oct. 21-23 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh.
The Mission of Mercy is sponsored by the nonprofit A Call for Care. It is a free, two-day dental clinic designed to provide those without access to regular, quality dental care with the services they need.
All services are provided free of charge by dental professionals, assisted by a team of clinical and non-clinical volunteers. Individuals who require follow-up care are connected to local agencies for additional treatment, along with education on positive oral health habits.
Out-of-state dentists wishing to participate need to contact the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry and apply for a temporary license.
In 2019, the event served 1,348 patients, with $861,827 the total value of the services provided. There were 6,574 procedures, and the value per-patient-treated was $639.34.
The 2020 event was canceled due the COVID-19 pandemic.
