Dental Assistants Recognition Week is March 3-9, designated by the American Dental Assistants Association as the time to acknowledge and recognize the valued members of the dental team.

The theme for 2024 is “100 Years Supporting Oral Health” and acknowledges the importance of dentistry's role in health care and the contributions of dental assistants.

David Fried, D.M.D., member of the ADA Council on Dental Practice, said dental assistants are essential for dentists to be able to provide treatment.

“Often as the unsung heroes, they are responsible for infection control procedures and ensuring that appropriate instruments and materials are provided,” Dr. Fried said. “Working properly with dental assistants allows for better ergonomics and efficiency, ensuring fewer back and neck issues and smoother procedures. By training and empowering members of the dental team, dentists can create more successful and rewarding career paths for dental assistants.”

The American Dental Assistants Association has created a variety of tools to help promote the week and celebrate dental assistants.
