Register for Dental Editors University
Elevate communication skills, motivational messaging
Dental editors and leaders who communicate with the oral health community are invited to register for the 2024 Dental Editors University, scheduled for May 2-3 in Rosemont, Illinois.
The American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists has gathered a panel of experts to discuss the use of artificial intelligence in communications, publishing, social media, podcasting, writing and editing, among other topics. These thought leaders in dental journalism aim to assist current and future editors in developing best practices for crafting stories and publications that resonate with their audience.
“Effective communication is crucial; with declining membership, the explosion of AI-generated content and misinformation, every dental leader can benefit from the Dental Editors University to sharpen their skills and explore new technologies to motivate and deliver a trusted, valid message,” said Chris Smiley, D.D.S., president-elect of the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists.
The event will be held at the Daniel Laskin Institute of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Rosemont, Illinois.
Dr. Smiley also encouraged dental team members and students who are interested in learning tips for polishing written communications, including patient letters, care instructions and promotional social media posts, to attend.
The keynote is titled Influence the Future: Embracing New Directions in Dental Editing with Passion and Purpose, and will be led by James R. Hupp, D.M.D., M.D., J.D., editor-in-chief of AAOMS Today and vice dean for academic, student and faculty affairs at the Washington State University College of Medicine, and Thomas B. Dodson, D.M.D., editor-in-chief of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and professor and chair of the University of Washington School of Dentistry’s department of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Other sessions include Leveraging AI in Social Media and Podcasting to Enhance Dental Journal Awareness, Storytelling and Writing Strategies to Create Impactful Essays and Editorials, Navigating Legal and Ethical Issues in Dental Publishing at the Intersection of IP and AI and The Mechanics of Publication and the Elements of Design, among others.
The seminar will offer continuing education units and credits toward the certified dental editor credentialing. Information on fees, speakers, and courses is available at www.aadej.org/deu or by emailing Denise Maihofer, the executive director of the AADEJ, at denise.aadej@gmail.com.
