FAQ addresses HIPAA administrative simplification requirements
An FAQ addressing Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act administrative simplification requirements is available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ National Standards Group.
Administrative simplification requirements govern how covered providers, health plans and clearinghouses must conduct electronic administrative health care transactions. They also set privacy and security standards for transmitting electronic health information.
The National Standards Group administers the provisions related to the format and content of electronic administrative transactions, such as claims and payment, while the Office for Civil Rights administers those related to privacy and security. The National Standards Group enforces the provisions by responding to complaints about potential noncompliance and conducting proactive compliance reviews.
The FAQ covers various aspects of enforcement and compliance. It is available at cms.gov.
The ADA Complete HIPAA Compliance Kit, available through the ADA Store, explains how to develop and implement a comprehensive HIPAA compliance program. ADA Member Advantage-endorsed Compliancy Group also helps ADA members simplify their HIPAA compliance through an all-in-one platform that includes policies and procedures, employee training, risk assessments and more.
