Communicate benefits of fluoride

CE course is ‘how to’ guide on discussing community water fluoridation

...

Want to learn how to talk to your patients, family and friends about the benefits of community water fluoridation? Attend a continuing education session on Oct. 19 at SmileCon to find out ways to communicate a positive message.

Community Water Fluoridation Advocacy 101 (7121) is scheduled for 10:30-11:30 a.m. Oct. 19 in room 260 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Participants are eligible to receive one hour of CE credit.

The ADA continues to endorse fluoridation of community water along with brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and eating a healthy diet to help prevent tooth decay and promote oral health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention named it one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century and for more than 75 years scientific evidence has pointed to fluoridation as safe and effective, according to the ADA.

The session is designed as a “how to” guide to effectively use talking points when people who don’t have a scientific background ask questions.

The speakers include Jane Grover, D.D.S., ADA senior director of CAAP and advocacy programs, and Christopher Delecki, D.D.S., senior attending dentist at Seattle Children’s and the University of Washington School of Dentistry.
