ADA invites dental schools to become testing sites for potential Seal products
ADA Qualified Sites program connects manufacturers with sites vetted by independent experts

The American Dental Association invites dental schools to apply to the ADA Qualified Sites program, which connects manufacturers with research sites that are qualified to test their products for the ADA Seal of Acceptance program.
“We encourage schools with relevant experience — particularly those with a background in working with industry — to get involved, as their expertise could really strengthen the program,” said Ashraf Fouad, D.D.S., chair of the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs. “Becoming a qualified site will help set labs and research sites apart and gather trustworthy data demonstrating the safety and effectiveness of over-the-counter oral care products.”
The ADA Qualified Sites program began accepting new site applications this month. Dental school research sites conducting clinical and/or laboratory research can apply.
An independent team of dental experts will evaluate sites to verify their ability to conduct research in support of Seal applications. Sites that meet the program’s criteria will earn “qualified” status and join a directory manufacturers can use to choose a vetted site for testing their products.
“By ensuring the research sites are fully independent, follow all the necessary protocols and produce accurate, valid and reliable data, the ADA Seal program receives the best nonbiased data with which to evaluate product submissions,” Dr. Fouad said. “While manufacturers aren’t required to use an ADA-qualified site, the program streamlines Seal testing by eliminating the need for additional confirmatory testing.”
