3 things you missed in government this week
NCOIL, dental workforce programs, nutrition labels

“Three Things You Missed in Government This Week” is designed to offer a way to stay informed on the topics of the week. These updates are meant to offer brief details on legislative or regulatory topics to keep dentists engaged and up to date. To explore the ADA’s latest advocacy efforts, more information is available at ADA.org/Advocacy.
1. The ADA is requesting changes to the National Council of Insurance Legislators’, or NCOIL’s, model act on dental loss ratio, citing recent updates to its own policy aimed at increasing insurer transparency and directing more premium dollars toward patient care. The Association outlined its revised dental loss ratio policy, adopted during its 2024 House of Delegates meeting.
2. The ADA is urging lawmakers to reauthorize and invest in federal dental workforce programs, citing their critical role in expanding access to oral health care. The Association expressed appreciation for congressional focus on health care workforce issues and emphasized the need to support the Health Resources and Services Administration Title VII oral health training programs.
3. The ADA is expressing support for a proposed rule by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that would require front-of-package nutrition labeling on most prepackaged foods. In a formal letter addressed to the FDA, ADA leaders applauded the agency’s efforts to improve transparency and promote healthier dietary choices by including added sugars content in a standardized, interpretive “Nutrition Info” box.
