ADA seeks applicants for new Certified Clinic Director program
Curriculum addresses gap in training for dental clinic directors

Applications are open for the new ADA Certified Clinic Director program, a professional development program designed for dentists who currently serve — or are preparing to serve — in leadership roles within dental clinics.
The American Dental Association created this program to help fill a gap, as there are limited training pathways to support the development of dental clinic directors. The program will address this industry-wide need for consistent, advanced knowledge in clinical operations, regulatory compliance, financial management and strategic leadership.
"As dentists, we tend to place a focus on our clinical training, especially in the early stages of our career. With time and experience, it becomes very apparent that while clinical proficiency is critical, the ability to lead the dental team and the operations of the dental office becomes equally important,” said Shane Ricci, D.D.S., chair of the ADA Council on Dental Practice. “This certification course provides the important pieces to truly build and apply the necessary skills to excel as a clinical leader."
The six-month program will kick off with a networking event Sept. 19 at ADA Headquarters in Chicago and run from October 2025-March 2026.
Each month, dentists will participate in two live, interactive webinars led by experts and two self-paced e-learning modules. By the end of the program, they will earn 35 continuing education credits and a Certificate of Completion.
The first cohort will include about 50 members. New clinic directors; experienced leaders seeking a competitive edge; practice owners and multi-clinic leaders; and emerging leaders in group practices are invited to apply. Applications close Aug. 11.
