JADA Foundational Science realigns mission to reflect translational research focus
Journal suspends author fees for remainder of 2025

JADA Foundational Science — the American Dental Association’s open-access, online-only journal — has realigned its tagline and mission to better reflect its role as a translational research journal.
“JADA Foundational Science was originally created with the goal of enhancing the sharing of oral health science research among researchers and clinicians,” Editor-in-Chief Jack Ferracane, Ph.D., said. “The purpose has always been to publish research that is translational in nature, work that provides a strong link between the basic/foundational science and the provision of oral health care.”
The journal’s new tagline is: “Translating discovery into clinical impact.” Its new mission statement also conveys its mission “to translate foundational discoveries into clinical contexts by publishing research that informs, supports or accelerates improvements in oral health care.”
“We believe that our realigned tagline emphasizes the core purpose of the journal, and we welcome high-quality manuscripts in dental research, in particular those that demonstrate how scientific insights can inform diagnosis, prevention, treatment or behavior within the oral health ecosystem,” Dr. Ferracane said.
Authors can submit their work to the journal through its online manuscript submission and tracking system at editorialmanager.com/jadafs. The journal seeks full-length original research articles, short communications and invited reviews that explore the biological, chemical, physical, computational and engineering underpinnings of dental and craniofacial health.
Processing charges for authors are suspended for the remainder of the year. These fees are often charged to authors by open-access publications to cover the costs of making articles freely accessible online. For JADA Foundational Science, the processing charge per article is typically $2,500.
