ADA symposium to equip dentists to be champions for overall health
Dentistry’s Role in Complete Health 2025 will address how dentistry can change trajectory of nation’s health, prevent chronic disease

A symposium hosted by the American Dental Association in June will explore the relationship between oral health and overall health and show how dental professionals can become leaders in the battle against chronic disease.
Dentistry’s Role in Complete Health 2025: We Make People Healthy, taking place June 13-14 in Chicago, is open to dentists and their team members. Led by a team of researchers, clinicians, authors and educators, the symposium will emphasize the mouth as the gateway to overall health and integrate the latest research and clinical practices to promote a holistic approach to dental care.
Through the course, dental professionals will:
• Explore how oral diseases such as periodontal disease can impact systemic conditions and what nonsurgical therapy strategies are appropriate.
• Gain competency in various screening and testing procedures, enhancing their ability to diagnose and manage oral health issues with precision and evidence-based strategies.
• Learn how to integrate findings and collaborate with other medical specialists to significantly impact the overall health of adults and children.
• Advocate for preventive strategies and wellness programs that integrate oral health with overall health promotion.
• Engage in collaborative panel discussions to establish protocols for the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of oral-systemic concerns, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and promoting holistic health outcomes.
• Understand the link between airway and systemic health by exploring how airway issues can influence conditions like hypertension, cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders.
• Know how to apply medical coding for procedures that have medical necessity in dentistry.
The symposium, which is worth 15 continuing education credits, costs $899 for member dentists, $499 for dental team members and $999 for nonmember dentists.
