ADA seeks feedback on oral cancer recommendations

New call for comment on vital staining open through Nov. 28

...

The ADA Living Guideline Program is continuing its work to advance evidence-informed recommendations for the early detection and management of oral cancer, and is once again inviting feedback from the dental community and the public.

Following the first recommendation on brush cytology, on Nov. 17 the ADA Living Guideline Program is opening a new call for comment focused on the use of vital staining adjuncts. Dentists, other health care professionals, patients, organizations and policymakers are encouraged to share their expertise and insights to help shape the upcoming guideline.

Comments can be submitted through ADA.org/GuidelineComments by Nov. 28. To take part, download and review the draft recommendations, register for an optional virtual listening session on Nov. 24 at 5 p.m. CT, and submit comments and feedback via the online form prior to the deadline. Attendance at the listening session is not required to provide feedback.

This new recommendation is part of the ADA’s ongoing collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine to update the 2017 guideline on the evaluation of potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer.

Feedback from the public comment period will be reviewed and incorporated into the final vital staining recommendations, which are expected to be published in early 2026.

More recommendations on the early detection of oral cavity or lip squamous cell carcinoma and oral potentially malignant disorders will be released for comment in the future.
