ADA standards on CBCT systems, DICOM available for comment

Deadline is Dec. 5

...

Two draft standards are available from the American Dental Association for review and comment until Dec. 5.

Proposed ANSI/ADA Standard No. 1098 for Dentistry — Quality Assurance for Cone Beam Computed Tomographic (CBCT) Systems: There are essentially two components involved with any CBCT imaging system: the X-ray source with the digital image acquisition device (usually a flat panel detector made of amorphous silicone or solid-state sensor or an image intensifier and acquisition software) and the image display device (computer, monitor and display software) and viewing environment. This standard addresses these components.

Proposed ANSI/ADA Standard No. 1114 for Dentistry — Implementation Requirements for the Effective Use of DICOM: This document provides dental requirements for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine, or DICOM, conformance for storage, retrieval, archive and reporting in a Picture Archival and Communication System or data repository system. It specifies proper networking infrastructure to ensure interoperability, data security and privacy among health care systems.
