Two dentists compete for roses on 'The Golden Bachelor'

...
Terri Alani, D.D.S., left, and Monica Parham, D.D.S., are both cosmetic dentists looking for love on "The Golden Bachelor."

When you can’t find love in the dental operatory, you may have to turn to unorthodox measures.

Two cosmetic dentists are competing on this season of ABC’s “The Golden Bachelor,” which premiered Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. CST. Terri L. Alani, D.D.S., practices in Houston, and Monica Parnam, D.D.S., practices in Birmingham, Alabama.

They’re among 23 women competing for a rose from the Golden Bachelor Mel Owens, a 66-year-old former NFL player and practicing attorney.

Known as the “Texas Tooth Lady,” Dr. Alani, 71, graduated from Texas A&M University before earning her dental degree at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry in 1981. She lectures on cosmetic procedures and is active in the Greater Houston Dental Society and the Texas Dental Association.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Alani, who has garnered a large social media following, has traveled the world solo, did a polar plunge in Antarctica and loves fitness and nature photography.

Dr. Parham, 60, is originally from Tupelo, Mississippi, and attended the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. She did a general practice residency at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital, ultimately becoming chief resident. Dr. Parham is also a graduate of the Pankey Institute and is active in the Birmingham Dental Society and Alabama Dental Society.

Dr. Parham, whose husband died four years ago, has two grown sons and takes care of her elderly parents in Mississippi. She loves Pilates and credits it for keeping her fit enough to continue practicing dentistry.
