Weigh-in on oral cancer recommendations

Comments for ADA Living Guideline program must be submitted by Sept. 12

...

The ADA Living Guideline program is issuing a call for comments for the first recommendation in the oral cancer guideline, currently in development.

Dentists, health care professionals, organizations and policymakers are invited to share their expertise and insight in support of the development of new guidelines through the ADA Living Guideline program, which is the first and only known living clinical practice guideline program dedicated to oral health. Comments can be submitted at ADA.org/GuidelineComments.

The ADA and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine are collaborating to update a guideline on the early detection of potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer, last published in 2017. The first draft recommendations for early detection of potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer with brush cytology for this update are available and open for public comment.

Those interested must provide feedback by Sept. 12, and an informed recommendation is expected to be released later this year.  A webinar is scheduled for 5-6 p.m. CST on Sept. 10 to help those interested in providing feedback.

More recommendations for early detection of oral cavity/lip and oropharynx squamous cell carcinoma and oral potentially malignant disorders will be available for public comment in the future.
