ADA Scientific Session goes beyond learning to build in-person connections

Conversations with peers can increase understanding, real-world application of concepts

The ADA 2026 Scientific Session will bring dentists together not only to learn from leading experts but also to exchange perspectives and discuss real-world challenges with each other.

“While evidence informs practice, conversations with peers deepen understanding,” said ADA President Richard Rosato, D.M.D. “Come for the evidence-based education and leave with new knowledge, new perspectives and new connections that can continue to shape your practice long after the Scientific Session ends.”

With the meeting right around the corner on Oct. 8-10 in Indianapolis, time is running out for dentists to register at ADA.org/SciSession and join colleagues from across the profession to access research, clinical guidelines, expert perspectives and practical insights designed to support their clinical decision-making and patient care.

This evidence-based learning will form the foundation of dentists’ Scientific Session experience, but dentists will also bring their own perspectives to share based on the patient populations they serve, their hands-on practice experiences and the clinical challenges they have faced.

As attendees participate actively during courses by asking questions, sharing their thoughts and comparing approaches, conversations can move beyond what the evidence says to how concepts can be applied in actual practice.

“Education is only part of the value of attending in person,” Dr. Rosato said. “The opportunity to discuss what you're learning with colleagues can add context, challenge assumptions and introduce perspectives that aren't always possible through independent or virtual learning.”

Beyond the classroom, the Scientific Session will create other opportunities for participants to connect intentionally with their fellow attendees.

Those looking for meaningful conversations can join “dine-arounds” on Oct. 7 and 8 at area restaurants. To create the best experience possible, meeting organizers will match individual participants into groups of about 10 people based on their responses to a survey related to interests, professional backgrounds and networking preferences. All meeting registrants will receive the survey via email on Aug. 27, and responses are due by Sept. 18.

Other events include the opening session, which will bring the dental community together to kick off the Scientific Session on Oct. 8. A happy hour that evening will provide a more informal setting for attendees to continue conversations started earlier in the day with colleagues, speakers and industry professionals. On Oct. 9, the Changemakers Celebration will recognize dentists who have made an impact across the profession.

“The more attendees engage with one another, the more they will gain from their Scientific Session experience,” Dr. Rosato said.
