ADA seeks feedback on first recommendation from new antibiotic guideline for implant surgery
Public comment ends Aug. 21
The ADA Living Guideline Program is accepting comments through Aug. 21 on the first recommendation from a new living guideline on antibiotic prophylaxis for dental implant procedures.
The draft recommendation addresses antibiotic prophylaxis for healthy patients undergoing dental implant placement surgery. This is the first of three sets of recommendations to be released from the living guideline.
The ADA invites dentists, other healthcare professionals, patients, organizations and additional stakeholders to share their expertise and insights to help shape the upcoming recommendation.
To take part, download and review the draft recommendation at ADA.org/guidelinecomments, register for an optional virtual listening session at 4 p.m. CDT Aug. 17, and submit comments and feedback via the online form on the guideline comments webpage. Attendance at the listening session is not required to provide feedback.
The ADA will review and incorporate feedback from the public comment period into the final recommendation, which is expected to be published this winter.
The Living Evidence-Informed Guideline on Antibiotic Prophylaxis for Surgical Procedures Related to Dental Implant Placement is part of the ADA’s ongoing collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine on living guidelines. A previous living guideline addressed early oral cancer detection.
Established in 2025, the ADA Living Guideline Program seeks to provide oral healthcare providers and patients with more frequent evidence-informed recommendations to advance oral and overall health. The program upholds the methodological rigor of traditional guidelines, but living guidelines are updated as new evidence becomes available.
