New HPI series offers at-a-glance overviews of key issues impacting dentistry

Latest article examines federal loan cap’s effects on dental education

...

The ADA Health Policy Institute has launched a new series of articles that provide concise but detailed analyses of key trends impacting the dental market.

HPI Perspectives leverages the latest data from HPI and other sources to offer insights on dental workforce shortages, shifts in demographics and other topics affecting dentists, dental practices and access to care.

The most recent article, published in June, addresses the potential long-term effects of the new federal student loan borrowing limit on the future of dental education.

Starting July 1, dental students will only be able to borrow $50,000 per year in federal loans to pay for their education, even though tuition is often much higher than that amount. The article explores the ways that this cap could impact dental student diversity, potentially affecting access to care and reshaping the dental workforce.
