JADA Foundational Science indexed in PubMed Central
Articles will be searchable in National Library of Medicine archive
Articles published in JADA Foundational Science, the American Dental Association’s open access journal, will soon be included and searchable in one of the most widely used biomedical research platforms.
The journal has been indexed in PubMed Central, a free, full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine. Its indexing provides several benefits for both authors and researchers, including increased visibility, enhanced citation potential and strengthened credibility. Additionally, many funding bodies, including NIH, require research to be publicly accessible through PubMed Central to comply with funding requirements.
“This indexing makes it easier and more likely that interested readers will be able to locate and download our excellent articles for research and general interest,” said Jack L. Ferracane, Ph.D., editor-in-chief of JADA FS. “Thanks to Elsevier and all of our authors, reviewers and editors for helping to make this important step happen.”
While some JADA FS articles are available in PubMed, many are still in the process of being populated on the platform, which could take several weeks. Watch the JADA journals’ LinkedIn account for updates on the process.
JADA FS is dedicated to translating foundational discoveries into clinical contexts by publishing research that informs, supports or accelerates improvements in oral health care. Its articles explore the biological, chemical, physical, computational and engineering underpinnings of dental and craniofacial health, emphasizing scientific rigor, innovation and a clear connection to clinical or public health impact.
Dr. Ferracane, who has led JADA FS since its launch in 2022, credited efforts to attract more papers to the journal as the reason for achieving PubMed’s approval — a significant milestone in a journal’s journey. From May 2025 to April 2026, JADA FS paused article processing charges, leading to an influx in manuscript submissions. ADA members still receive a 50% discount on full charges, which are $2,500 for full-length articles and $1,500 for short communications.
