2023 national fluoridation awards: seven Michigan communities recognized
The ADA, Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have awarded seven Michigan water systems with the 2023 Community Water Fluoridation 50 Year Award.
The recipients of the awards — including Allegan, Bangor, Blissfield, Boyne City, Manchester, New Buffalo and Portage — demonstrated excellence in adjusting and maintaining fluoridation levels in the community drinking water, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The agency noted that about 90% of the residents of the communities may have access to fluoridated water, thereby reducing the risk of tooth decay among both adults and children in the state.
