AI for virtual implant placement

...

A novel artificial intelligence-based tool could help improve implant placement.

In a study published in Clinical Oral Implants Research, researchers examined the accuracy, implant dimension selection, time efficiency and consistency of single posterior mandibular tooth replacement with the AI-based approach compared with a human intelligence-based approach. They used 50 cone-beam computed tomography and intraoral scans to validate the AI model.

Compared with the human intelligence-based approach, the AI-based approach was found to offer similar clinically acceptable implant planning and selected implant dimensions. Further, the AI model was effective at reducing the planning time and demonstrated high consistency compared with implant clinicians.

The findings suggested that the novel AI-based approach could enhance implant placement.
