Albany council votes to add fluoride to water supply

Albany Common Council in New York unanimously approved a measure to add fluoride to the city’s water supply.   

The public comment period preceding the vote included words from supporters and opponents, many of whom said this topic has been a controversy for decades.    

“I started (my practice) in 1974 in Guilderland. I see no ill effects on my family or the over 50,000 children I’ve treated in this community,” said one citizen in support of fluoride.  

The council voted 12-0 to approve the measure, stating that their studies have shown that fluoride will not have a negative impact.
