Association for Dental Safety announces nonprofit to lead dental infection control efforts

...

The Association for Dental Safety, a nonprofit dedicated to dental infection prevention and patient safety, has launched the ADS Institute for Dental Safety and Science.

The new institute assumes the national role of developing and updating infection control guidelines for dentistry, which was previously held by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Oral Health before it was disbanded in April.
The institute aims to provide evidence-based guidance and tools to protect patients and providers, continuing the Association for Dental Safety’s 41-year mission. The association’s work has influenced national dental safety standards, including protocols for dental unit waterline disinfection following outbreaks in Georgia and California, and pandemic-era resources viewed by over 150,000 dental professionals.

The new institute will convene an advisory committee to revise national infection control guidelines last updated in 2003 and plans to expand into education, training, and policy development.

“Oral health is a cornerstone of overall well-being and a vital pillar in the health of our nation. Grounded in evidence and driven by a steadfast commitment to safety, the new ADS Institute for Dental Safety and Science will continue to support our profession's capacity to deliver safe, high-quality care to every community,” said ADA President Brett Kessler, D.D.S.
