AstraZeneca withdraws COVID-19 vaccine
AstraZeneca announced it is withdrawing its COVID-19 vaccine due to "a surplus of available updated vaccines" that have arisen since the global pandemic started.
Known as Vaxzevria, the drug has been one of the main COVID-19 vaccines worldwide since it was first administered in January 2021. But according to the company, the demand has greatly decreased and the drug has not generated revenue since April 2023.
“As multiple, variant COVID-19 vaccines have … been developed, there is a surplus of available updated vaccines. This has led to a decline in demand for Vaxzevria, which is no longer being manufactured or supplied," the company stated.
