Biden administration forgives $6B in student debt for public service workers
The Biden administration announced it is forgiving nearly $6 billion in student loan debt for an additional 78,000 borrowers, who can expect an email from President Joe Biden in the near future.
Those qualifying for debt cancellation are public service workers, including teachers, nurses, firefighters and social workers, through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. According to the White House, the administration has canceled student debt for more than 870,000 public service workers.
"These public service workers have dedicated their careers to serving their communities, but because of past administrative failures, never got the relief they were entitled to under the law," the statement reads.
