Bird flu potentially identified in Colorado poultry workers
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that three Colorado poultry workers likely have tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza, or H5 bird flu.
Specimens have been sent to the CDC for confirmatory testing, but all of the patients who tested presumptive positive experienced mild symptoms and were involved in the depopulation of poultry at a facility experiencing an outbreak of the H5N1 virus, according to the CDC.
At present, the CDC’s current risk assessment for the general public remains low, and findings from the investigation will inform whether guidance changes are needed.
