Boar’s Head issues recall of liverwurst, deli meats after Listeria contamination

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced that Boar’s Head Provisions has recalled ready-to-eat liverwurst and deli meat products as a result of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The agency noted that the liverwurst and deli meat products — including Virginia ham old fashioned ham, Italian cappy style ham, extra hot Italian cappy style ham, bologna, beef salami, steakhouse roasted bacon heat and eat, garlic bologna and beef bologna — were produced between June 11 and July 17. The recall was initiated after a sample of the products tested positive for the bacteria at the Maryland Department of Health.

The agency reported that the outbreak has caused at least 33 hospitalizations and two deaths across 13 states. Americans who believe they may have been exposed, especially those who are pregnant, aged 65 years and older or immunocompromised, should visit their health care providers.
