Campaign may improve dental care in state
The Alabama Dental Association announced the launch of a new initiative designed to reform dental coverage.
Adherence to dental visits may be low among residents in Alabama, ranking among the lowest five states in the country, according to a video report from WSFA 12. As a result, more than 15% of children may experience dental decay.
The More for Your Smile Campaign will advocate for new dental legislation to enhance access to high-quality dental care through “transparency, accountability and fairness,” explained Michele Huebner, executive director of the Alabama Dental Association. The initiative will also pursue dental loss ratio legislation, requiring that 80% of premiums cover treatment costs. The new policies, if enacted, could further increase the number of practicing dentists in Alabama by convincing students to remain in the state.
The association hopes that the proposed changes could eliminate barriers to oral health care among individuals in Alabama.
