Cannabis-related health risks after retailer openings

...

The opening of cannabis retailers may drive up neighborhood emergency department visits.

While the neighborhoods in which cannabis retailers opened saw a steady rate of emergency department visits compared with prior to the openings, neighborhoods without cannabis retailer openings observed declines in their emergency department visit rate over the duration of the study period.

The investigators proposed certain regulations on retailer openings to curb cannabis-related health risks in states and countries that have legalized recreational cannabis use.
