CDC may recommend spring COVID-19 booster shots

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is debating whether to recommend another COVID-19 booster shot this spring to the public, especially for people at risk for severe complications resulting from an infection.

A spring booster would be the same vaccine approved in 2023, formulated to target the XBB.1.5 subvariant. The vaccine is also very effective against the JN.1 subvariant, which is causing almost all COVID-19 infections at the moment.

Just 21.9% of adults have received the latest version of the vaccine.
