CDC urges Americans to throw away eggs after Salmonella outbreak

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned of eggs contaminated with Salmonella.

The outbreak originated with eggs sold by Milo’s Poultry Farms to retailers and restaurants across Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois and has resulted in 65 cases of Salmonella and 24 hospitalizations. The eggs were labeled with “Milo’s Poultry Farms” or “Tony’s Fresh Market.”

Americans who believe they have been exposed to the contaminated eggs should watch for symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, vomiting, dry mouth and throat, dizziness and abdominal cramps between six hours and six days following consumption. Although most individuals will recover within four to seven days, children, older individuals, and those who are immunocompromised may experience more severe disease.

Those who purchased the eggs were advised to throw them away and sanitize surfaces that may have come into contact with the products to minimize the risk of exposure.
