Challenges arise in Congo’s Ebola outbreak
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has issued a call to action following an outbreak of Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a news report from Reuters, the World Health Organization revealed that since early September, 48 confirmed and probable cases of Ebola and 31 deaths have been recorded in the region. Although health officials are working to contain the virus, the Red Cross federation reported that physicians may be facing overcapacity in the only medical facility in Bulape, Democratic Republic of Congo as well as shortages of essential resources such as clean water and protective equipment.
