City commission reverses itself on water fluoridation
An Abilene, Kansas, city commissioner changed her vote during a May commission meeting, ending in a 3-2 result that will reintroduce community water fluoridation.
The commission had halted the practice in April. Abilene dentist Beatrice Brittan, D.D.S., spoke during public comments, saying ending water fluoridation was a mistake.
“It’s a shame that some of you made the decision to take this public health benefit away from all people in Abilene because it does not fit into your own personal philosophy of government,” Dr. Brittan said.
