Coffee consumption pattern could predict longer life span

Following a coffee habit could improve cardiovascular health.

Investigators examined the coffee habits and health data of more than 40,000 U.S. adults who participated in the 1999 to 2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, according to a news article from ABC News. The participants were categorized into two groups depending on their coffee consumption habits: those who only drank coffee in the morning and those who drank the beverage throughout the day.

In the study, published in the European Heart Journal, the investigators discovered that the participants who consumed coffee only in the morning had a lower risk of early mortality and cardiovascular disease-related mortality compared with those who drank coffee throughout the day. The findings held true regardless of the amount or type of coffee consumed.

The investigators suggested that morning coffee consumption may better correlate with the body’s natural circadian rhythm and could reduce inflammation, thereby improving cardiovascular health. However, further studies are needed to validate the findings. Individuals were advised to have a conversation with their physicians regarding the benefits or risks of coffee consumption prior to changing their habits.
