Committee seeks to enhance access to dental, medical care
According to a report from the Virginia Mercury, a rural health committee convened in Farmville, Virginia, to discuss potential solutions for improving health care disparities. The meeting was one of several hosted across Virginia to listen to members of the community, with the goal of providing policy recommendations to expand health care access by the end of 2024.
Among the proposals were to revisit bills that had failed to pass — including ones to establish a maternal health task force, require unconscious bias training during medical license renewal and collect data on fetal and infant mortality — and issues related to transportation. Although the meeting focused predominantly on maternal health, attendees also addressed dental care access and suggested that more questions need to be asked regarding how to bring dentists and medical professionals to practice in rural areas.
