Community water fluoridation fostered by belief in science-based evidence

The dental community continues to face challenges in combatting water fluoridation misinformation and fostering trust in evidence-based recommendations, two authors of an article wrote in an article titled “Truth Decay and Tooth Decay: The Role of Dental Teams in Sharing the Science of Community Water Fluoridation.”

This challenge occurs as some communities decide to terminate their community water fluoridation due to scientific mistrust in the safety of the practice. 

“Dental team members can build confidence by sharing the safety and benefits of community water fluoridation,” write the authors. “Building comfort in drinking public tap water and fluoridation programs can strengthen population health practices.”
