Comparing two bulk-fill thermoviscous composite resin preheating protocols
Researchers may have uncovered the most effective strategy for preheating bulk-fill thermoviscous composite resin for the treatment of noncarious cervical lesions.
In a study published in the Journal of Dentistry, the researchers randomly assigned patients with 120 noncarious cervical lesions to receive bulk-fill thermoviscous composite resin preheated with one of two protocols: dispenser heaters, involving preheating to 68° C for 30 seconds or bench heaters, which preheated the resin to the same temperature for three minutes. They then analyzed the retention rates of the bulk-fill thermoviscous composite resin.
After a period of 24 months, the researchers found that among the 106 restorations eligible for evaluation, there were no statistically differences in retention rates between both the dispenser heater and bench heater groups. Nonetheless, the total working time was longer in the bench heater group compared with the dispenser heater group.
The findings showed that either preheating protocol may be effective in the restoration of noncarious cervical lesions.
