Consuming mangoes could improve glycemic control in prediabetes

...

A study has observed how dietary choices could affect glycemic control in prediabetic individuals.

In the study, published in Foods, researchers randomly assigned 24 patients aged 50 to 70 years who had prediabetes to consume one mango or a calorie-matched granola bar per day for a period of 24 weeks.

The researchers discovered that the patients in the mango group had lower fasting blood glucose levels and stable hemoglobin A1c levels compared with those in the granola bar group. Further, the patients who consumed mangoes had higher levels of fat-free mass and a lower waist-to-hip ratio.

The investigators hope to explore the extent of health benefits offered by mangoes beyond glycemic control in further studies.
