Could the flapless surgical approach be a viable surgical treatment alternative for peri-implantitis?
A study in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a flapless surgical approach in the treatment of peri-implantitis and to explore the factors influencing its outcome.
The study included 117 patients with 338 implants. Disease resolution was attained in 54.4% of the 338 implants receiving flapless surgical access. At the end of the follow-up period, 111 patients with 295 did not require any further treatment, the study reported.
"The flapless surgical approach could be a viable surgical treatment alternative for the management of peri-implantitis. The lack of a control group and the potential for bias are important limitations. Well-designed randomized controlled trials with a robust methodology are needed to validate these findings," according to the study.
