County leaders stop water fluoridation

The Collier County Commission in Florida voted unanimously to end water fluoridation after three hours of public debate on the pro’s and cons of fluoride being added to the county’s drinking water. Advocates within the medical and dental community said fluoride in drinking water helps protect against tooth decay, and is especially needed for children from low-income families. 

Removing fluoride will exacerbate children's tooth decay and wait times for care, they said, to no avail. The commission had 48 speakers signed up to speak on the matter.
