COVID-19 cases may be on the rise as holidays approach
Experts warned that COVID-19 infections may be rising in the fall months after The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified heightened levels of the virus in U.S. wastewater samples.
Following high COVID-19 case numbers in the summer months, the prevalence of the disease diminished, according to a news report from Newsweek.
However, as of early November, the CDC reported that 35 states were found to have low or minimal COVID-19 viral activity, nine states had moderate viral activity, five states had high viral activity and that one state has been found to have very high levels of viral activity. The agency noted that newer variants of the virus could be driving the increase in case numbers.
Receiving an updated COVID-19 vaccine before the holidays may help prevent severe infections, hospitalizations and death.
