COVID-19 vaccine not associated with cardiac death among young people

The COVID-19 vaccine is not linked to sudden cardiac death among previously healthy young people, according to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Investigators looked at death certificate data for 40 people aged 16-30 in 2021-22 in Oregon with cardiac or undetermined causes of death who had received either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Of the 40 deaths, three occurred 100 days or less after vaccination, and among these, two occurred in people with underlying illness and one had an undetermined cause of death.

The CDC recommends COVID-19 vaccination for all people at least 6 months old to prevent the disease and its complications, including death.
