Dental hygiene program joins Dental College of Georgia to strengthen training, collaboration

Augusta University’s dental hygiene program has officially moved under the Dental College of Georgia. This transition brings the department’s 11 faculty members, one staff member, and 59 undergraduate students into the state’s only dental school, where much of their clinical training already occurs.
The realignment aims to streamline academic, physical and financial resources while enhancing interdisciplinary learning opportunities for students.
“Consolidating the dental hygiene department under the Dental College has the potential to achieve more efficient use of academic, physical and financial resources,” said Nancy Young, D.M.D, dean of the Dental College of Georgia.
Despite the administrative shift, the dental hygiene program will maintain strong collaborations with Augusta University’s College of Allied Health Sciences, continuing joint initiatives that benefit both students and local communities.
Erin Boyleston, dental hygiene program director, emphasized the practical advantages of the move, stating that the Dental College of Georgia is “already where students’ clinical education happens, so relocating administratively to where their faculty and resources are based makes perfect sense.”
