Dental hygienist offers tips to maintain high standards
In an article published in Dentistry IQ, Suzanne Hubbard an independent direct access dental health care hygienist practicing in Colorado, offered advice on setting and achieving high standards in dental hygiene.
Ms. Hubbard emphasized the importance of recalling what hygienists learned in dental hygiene school, reaching out to dentists and peers to receive constructive criticism and using failure as a catalyst for growth and success.
She noted that although hygienists may be tempted to conform to the standards of their practices once out of dental hygienist school, maintaining high standards can allow hygienists to build trust with patients and provide high-quality care. Ms. Hubbard further recommended utilizing continuing education when hygienists feel burnout in order to reevaluate and improve their standards.
She concluded that working toward a shared goal among colleagues can provide an opportunity to communicate about concerns and protocols, maintain integrity and strive for excellence.
