Dental school opens clinic for patients with disabilities
A new clinic at the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry will provide patients with disabilities with the dental care they require but too often can’t access.
The school held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in February for the Phil & Karen Hunke Special Care Clinic, located alongside the Center for Oral Health Care and Research. The clinic will see as many as 40 patients with intellectual, cognitive, developmental and physical disabilities every day.
The clinic’s director, Jennifer Farrell, D.D.S., said patients with special health care needs often have a hard time finding dental services and it is important to train dental students, residents and specialists to deliver care to these patients.
