Dental student uses TikTok to share passion for dentistry

Karsen Springfield, a first-year dental student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, shared her perspectives on the art of dentistry on the social media platform TikTok.

Ms. Springfield noted that both of her parents graduated from the university’s college of dentistry, which inspired her to pursue a career in general dentistry. With a passion for science and art, a bachelor’s degree in biology from Christian Brothers University and involvement across organizations such as the American Student Dental Association; she hopes to document her experiences in dental school by posting videos of her performing dental techniques, offering advice about how to get into dental school and where to start, and connecting with students considering a career in dentistry.

“I think if more people knew that [there is an artistic component to dentistry], then it could be better for our field in general. [T]here [are] so many people that would be so good at this, but maybe they don’t want to pursue it because they don’t really know what it’s all about,” Ms. Springfield said.
