Dentists celebrate International Women’s Day
Female leaders in dentistry discussed how dental professionals can support women in dentistry.
International Women’s Day illuminates the global achievements of women across the medical, scientific, political, economic and social spheres, according to a news article from Dentistry. Each year, activists use the day of recognition to celebrate these accomplishments and advance gender equality.
In a video interview, five female leaders in dentistry offered strategies to elevate women in the dental profession. For instance, showcasing more women in leadership positions demonstrates that women are capable of excelling at these roles and that their mindsets and voices are integral to the success of the profession. This can also help encourage those with lower representation in dentistry to pursue a career in the profession and empower the next generation of dentists. Further, female dentists can guide the next generation of women in dentistry and help them get ahead to contribute to the cycle of support.
The theme of the 2026 International Women’s Day is “Give to Gain,” which calls on individuals, communities and organizations to support women through donation and advocacy, knowledge and resources, education and training, collaboration and mentorship, visibility and advocacy, and reciprocity.
