Diet could ease psoriasis severity

...

The Mediterranean diet could help patients reduce psoriasis flare-ups.

In a clinical trial published in JAMA Dermatology, researchers randomly assigned 38 patients with mild-to-moderate psoriasis and receiving stable topical therapy to either follow a Mediterranean diet or receive low-fat dietary advice.

Compared with those in the low-fat dietary advice group, the participants in the Mediterranean diet group experienced greater improvements in their Psoriasis Area and Severity Index scores, as well as improvements in patient-reported outcomes, anxiety scores, sleep and quality of life. However, there were no statistically significant differences in weight, waist circumference or cholesterol levels.

The researchers concluded that incorporating dietary guidance into psoriasis treatment strategies could help patients better manage flare-ups.
